In order to effectively defend the Kriegsmarine naval base, the German command decided to build a coastal artillery battery, which was to be equipped with 15 cm guns. Construction began in 1936. Already in 1939, the first trial firing took place and the battery was manned by artillerymen. Seven huge reinforced concrete bunkers, a dozen or so barracks, several kilometers of roads and all the necessary technical infrastructure were built.
