The squadron made a raid on the cruiser "Lützow" mooring on the Piast Canal. Two previous air strikes against the ship, undertaken on April 13 and 15, 1945, were unsuccessful due to bad weather conditions. Only the third raid was successfully completed, in which 18 Lancasters from 617 Squadron RAF participated, escorted by 33 Mustang fighter planes from the Polish 133 Fighter Wing. The bombers were armed with 14 heavy Tallboy bombs weighing 5.34 tons and 48 bombs weighing 500 kg.
